This section collects all editorials and posts I could recover from the first incarnation of The Fort, which at that time was hosted by Planetfortress.
This covers the time from 1999 to 2002. The editorials have been adapted to the system of this site. Some formatting has been changed. Personal email addresses have been removed.

I was skimming through Teatime’s editorial, and decided to give some footnotes for you all. Some of it is for the sake of understanding the history of this game, and some is just to learn more about the game itself. For anyone that hasn’t played the original TF for Quake, I highly recommend finding a copy of Quake (I recently picked up a boxed full-version Quake CD at my local nation-wide software chain for $6 to replace a broken CD), and just giving it a run, to get a hang of what it took to (...)

Okay, this one has occupied my mind quite some time now.
Watching the TFC Community I believe that this community has changed very clearly compared to the beginnings 2 years ago. Well, why should it not? 2 years is a lot of time, especially in the fast world of online gaming. Yet I’m rather concerned about the changes I think have taken place, and are still taking place in the community.
So not to cause any confusion:
I’m talking of the community here, not the game. While - of course - the (...)

To all too many people, the Fourth of July is merely a day off work, to have picnics and cookouts with families, and then to go see fireworks that evening. It’s been forgotten - in many people’s opinions - what this day is TRULY about. A day when a group of men decided they didn’t like what their government was doing, and chose to become patriots, to try to make a better future for themselves and their loved ones. Many of these sacrificed their livelihoods and lives in this cause. And since (...)

The following is a guest editorial sent to my by Kalashnikov. It’s offering some interesting insights on the issues of younger players in TFC.
For quite a while now, I have been a dedicated half-life gamer. Starting out when I was 13 (I am 15 now, and have been for ... oh 30 minutes ... since 12:00 PM/00:00 AM on Fri/Sat the 22nd/23rd). And have been in 2 clans, staying in the first for around 1 year, and being in the second for 6 months ... and being a floater (drifter) in between. And (...)

Okay, there have been very little content the past few weeks. But slowly my life returns to a state at least remotely resembling normal, so I hope I’ll be able to update the Fort more regularly again in the future.
I’m working on an editorial dealing with the state of the community and the changes which I think have taken place over the last two years, and I hope I will finish it soon.
So stay tuned (...)

Damn, I’m way too much behind things ...
Sorry to see you leave, PK. I know you from those early days when I entered this wondrous world of TFC and found the PF forums with all these strange folks, amongst them many nice and helpful people. Over these 2 years you have earned my utmost respect. You always had an immense knowledge of the game and the technological aspects behind it, you understood the mechanics of the game and you knew about the basics which make this game work, like class (...)

I don’t know why I keep doing this, but I’ve realized that I stretched myself too thin. I thought it would be ok, most of the PFL stuff stays on Monday nites (yeah right), TFTech is a matter of answering a few (*cough*as long as there isn’t a patch*cough*) emails a day, which usually only take a minute or two each, I’d get to updating the page eventually. The TFC Reform page couldn’t be much different, so I can handle that, too. What’s an editorial once in a while?
Well, I’ve realized something. (...)

Okay, back to business. I think it’s about time to say a few words about those last two articles.
Female Gamers in TFC
This one spawned quite some reactions, ranging from positive to negative (and some even beyond negative). Let me address a few points of the various emails or discussions (in random order):
The guest editorial of Battle Angel was not intended to complain or to whine. It was a statement about what kind of behaviour a lot of female players meet when playing TFC. IMO (...)

Sorry for the lack of updates, I was quite busy the last few days. The editorial of Battle Angel spawned some discussions and a number of emails. I hope I will get around to write a comment on all of it this weekend.
Meanwhile I’ll go the easy way to add some content by quoting here a post done by CENSORED@#$!*KEA* on the PF Forums
[...] Granted KEA isn’t the best clan in the world and granted we haven’t won every single game we are currently 20-5 in last 25 and we are in OGL Expert (...)

Today I have the pleasure to present you a guest editorial by Battle Angel, a female TFC player who is very committed to the problems of women playing such a male-dominated game like TFC (and I assume the situation is not any different in other first-person-shooters) and also a member of Babes in Boyland, a guide composed by female gamers. This is a good but also sad read of what women have to endure while playing a game where the sex of the player should be completely unimportant ...
So (...)
