Yes, I saw that. In a book. The book also had unicorns, flying monkeys and incorruptible politicians.
Sadly in reality too many engies are self-absorbed retards who think their sentry will make them Gods. I guess these engies are very much like snipers drunken with the possibility of one-shot-kills: I AM THE SNIPER, YOUR GOD, LORD RULING OVER YOUR PETTY LIFE. And the engy does not even have to concern himself with aiming.
Yet most meet the sobering realization that sentries have been around for as long as the game exists and a many people have learned to deal with them. Let’s face it: The life expectancy of a sentry is not what it used to be, even under the best of circumstances. Not even considering those pesky spies being the bane of the careless engy’s existence.
It’s no coincidence that on a server with half-way competent players a team which starts with 2 or 3 engies will see this number reduced to one before too long (unless even that last one throws the towel wondering how his sentry could have deserted him so shamefully). You can almost imagine those people switching class with their tail between their legs
I wonder if those wanna-be engies realize that the main reason their buildings were destroyed almost as quickly as they’d raised them was the simply fact that by working alone they never were able to get beyond level 2, but more likely their buildings never saw level 2. And a level 1 sentry is not exactly a terrifying sight. It’s okay if it can take people by surprise, but otherwise it’s basically just target practice.
Now imagine a team of 3 engies working together (e.g. on defense). One builds and upgrades a TP while the other two erect and upgrade a sentry to level 3. And while one of those two upgrades his dispensers to lvl3 the first engy helps the other to get his stuff up. Afterwards the engy can build his own set a little behind as a second line of defense (once the first line falls), help to keep the other engies’ buildings alive or – if the TP wasn’t built by him – he can switch to another class.
In a scenario like this it is easy to have two sentry nests with dispensers and at least one TP-line with reasonable strength.
But the more likely scenario is 3 stupid engies with 3 lvl1 sentries (okay, one might even be lvl2), 3 TP entrances but at most a single exit, and the state of the dispensers is a matter of luck.
Perhaps the engy update will introduce something to better support those self-absorbed, occasionally dim-witted engies. They would not deserve it, but on the other hand I suspect we will see a lot of those during and after the update. Again, the promise of godlike power executed by proxy is apparently too tempting.
If those people would only realize that engies working together can create a force far more powerful than just the sum of its parts. Throw in some additional support from the rest of the team and you have a force to be reckon with, instead of three lousy lvl1 sentries and engies with stupid looks on their faces.
