Here in Germany we celebrate Christmas on the 24th. Trees are set on fire, people gather around it and presents are exchanged and opened (or - more discretely - money changes hands).
It is my understanding that in other parts of the world the ceremony with the presents has to wait until the morning of the first Christmas day. What a tease!
The United States are such a part of the world, and founded by religious outcasts they know all about tease and denial. It must be following that tradition that Valve has first given us an update with new weapons, also a crafting system which can turn led into gold (through a multilayered process which could have been a game all by itself) and now has throttled down the drop rate to a mere trickling.
And if things weren’t bad enough it apparently a few of the achievements are broken too, and milestones allegedly don’t grant weapons. What a tease, indeed!
Poor Valve. They arrange a splendid festival of mayhem and murder, then partially spoil the fun for some by choosing lukewarm weapons for the demo and then, when the celebration and flush of a major upgrade should carry people over that setback they sabotage their accomplishment by screwing up the drop system which nobody likes anyway.
Me, I’m quite relaxed. I’m quite impartial if I’m killed by old weapons or new ones, and I’m also quite content to see the hats on other people’s heads than not to see my hat on my own.
But yes, I would also like to get my hands on the new weapons and try them myself, especially to get a firsthand impression on how useful they are (or not). But if it takes a few more days I figure I will survive. And I’ll rather be patient in dignity than embarrass myself by ranting like a spoiled kid on Christmas morning because his parents have failed to get him the present he wished for in time and who will have to wait a few days longer.
But speaking of presents ...
Will there be anything else from Valve this season? Christmas hats for our hat-crazy community? I would say a crafting recipe would do, but that would probably add insult to injury
I would love to have a Christmas map! A variation of an existing map, just like the Halloween version of Harvest. Actually I think Doublecross would look terrific covered in snow, Christmas decoration, a luminous star mounted on a roof and a Christmas tree in each yard. And the intel replaced by a big colourful gift box.
Anyway, have a nice advent Sunday. Join a TF2 server and spread some fierce love. And try not to get into a huff about the bloody item drops. The stuff will come eventually ...
