Currently I’m not playing any TF2. I can’t say if this is just an extensive break or if I’m about to leave the game behind. After my stint with Fallout 3 and New Vegas I have turned towards other projects which consume my time (as a matter of fact right now I’m not playing anything, though I have a few perfectly fine games sitting in my Steam folder, but I expect that Portal 2 will change that at the latest).
Unlike with TFC I’m not fed up with the game. In TFC it was the increasing amount of bunnyhopping which finally turned me away from the game. There’s not such a basic problem with TF2. I don’t think the increasing number of weapons is a smart idea on Valve’s part, even if it helps to keep the game fresh and interesting. But IMHO a few new good maps [1] or – gasp – an interesting new gamemode could do the same (or even better?) without creating an overly complex assortment of weapons. But otherwise the game is still fine.
Under these circumstances I will not continue to update the Fort much longer (not that I have attended to it very regularly in the past few months in the first place). I have a few loose ends I want to take care of. I might have a couple of articles to launch into the wild (amongst those perhaps one I have been struggling with for over a year but was never quite satisfied). Maybe a final song for TF2 Radio.
I’ll try to make that happen within the next few weeks and send off the Fort into an hiatus-state on its 2nd anniversary. After that it will depend on my gracious host r007 how long the Fort will stay online (while collecting dust).
