I’m glad that you’ve highlighted that the main threat to a sentry isn’t a spy (and hasn’t been for a long time).
The demo man and soldier are considerably more dangerous and most competent engineers can see off a sapper in no time. Sapping is now (I feel) a tactic that allows a distraction for a main attack to happen. I’ve been saved by my fellow spies many times when the SG I was attacking fell silent for a few seconds allowing me to finish it off.
No, an unguarded sentry is very fragile. The direct hit and other weapons make it far too easy to take down a sentry (or the engineer) at range. (...)
